In 2018 Chris, Autumn and I went to Disney for a family vacation and so I could run the Wine and Dine 10k! This was my first time doing a Disney race trip with family and it was a little tricky but I think we all had a good time! (Next time I’ll definitely plan differently!! A race trip is very different from a family trip I have learned!)
We stayed at the Art of Animation hotel and Autumn *LOVED* the playground and pool there. Major hit with her since she’s super into ocean themed stuff, nemo and mermaids at the moment. The room we got was a family suite (photos at the bottom of the post) and that was really cool to have our own rooms for sleeping.
The race experience was really cool - this was my first time running through Epcot and I loved how beautiful everything was as the sun was rising and the music echoing through out the world showcase. Very emotional and inspiring!! After I got back from my 10k we took Autumn to run her first race. She was really excited and even picked out her own sparkle athletic skirt for it, but after waiting an hour to start she was a little cranky and just wanted to go home. She still ran the race but I think she would have enjoyed it more if the wait had been shorter. Oh well, better luck next time!
Our Magic Kingdom day was cut short due to spending some of it at the Ohana breakfast and then getting rained out with a stroller. We did take a Minnie van there though which was a new experience and that was really neat!! And Autumn wore her adorable new Mickey dress that my mother-in-law, Holly, made her for the trip!
A few pictures from Ohana. I think Autumn is now entering the a stage where she’s realizing the characters may not be real... She still likes them, but when it’s time to interact with them she was very shy. She loved watching them from far away though!
During our Epcot portion of the trip I was suuuuper excited about our Frozen fast passes since neither Chris nor Autumn had been on that ride yet...but both times we were scheduled to ride it, the ride shut down! One of the times the ride actually shut down while we were on it!! Which is sort of a bummer, but the cool part was we were escorted back to the entrance through the ride with the lights on... so we got to see a lot of neat behind the scenes stuff that normally wouldn’t be as visable!
Autumn also napped for a bit in the stroller which allowed some time to “drink around the world” for a bit which is something Chris and I hadn’t tried before. By drink around the world... I mean he tried a few beers and I had one glass of wine. Wooo quite the party... haha!!
I think Autumn’s favorite part of Epcot were the model trains in Germany. Every time we passed them she wanted to look at them FOREVER. It got to be a joke that when we had to walk past them we started to distract her to look the other way so we could get by quickly. (You can only stop to look at trains for 30 minutes per visit so many times!)
We also went to Animal Kingdom where we did a lot of our usual favorite things. My Aunt, Cousin and their family were there at the same time and we tried to meet up but it was just too difficult with the mismatched schedules and crowds. I would love to someday do Disney with a bigger family group again like I did as a kid!
Below are photos from the gorgeous hotel we stayed at. Suuuuper kid friendly and colorful!! I love the Art of Animation!
