On February 25th, 2018, I ran my first half marathon with my friend Jacqueline at Disney World!! Ever since I found out about the Princess half marathon in 2014 I was dying to do it... An event combining my two of my favorite things - Disney and running?! Sign me up! I wasn't able to complete my half marathon training because of a mom injury: holding Autumn too much as she grew in weight led to wrist and knee problems... happy to say it was temporary though! I did make it through a 10k during training and was even running 8 mile runs until a month before the big event! It was exciting to work towards.
I was able to complete the entire half marathon but I had to stop running after mile 7 due knee pain from the “mom injury” mentioned above. We walked the rest of the way which was very warm and difficult, but still enjoyable. Now that I know more about the training process and what to expect race wise, I look forward to running this again in 2020 with better planning!!
Jacqueline and I spent the weekend at Disney World before and after the race, and we met up with our friend Meredith and her friend Silas! This was my first vacation away from Autumn and Chris since she had been born (2 years to the date since the race was on Autumn's birthday!!).
Meeting up with Meredith in Magic Kingdom!!
The day before the race we went to Epcot and Minnie grabbed my camera to take a selfie with me and signed it! I love it when characters do fun stuff like that. It was reaaaaally warm so we ended up going back to the hotel room to chill in the afternoon.
The next day was the big race!! We met up with Meredith around 2:30 am, had coffee and breakfast and then took the buses to the race start. I loved all the character stops and running down main street and seeing the castle brought me to tears. It was so amazing to accomplish such a big goal like this. Most of my life I was not very active because I was interested in things like drawing and making websites (lots of sitting very still), so to be able to accomplish things I assumed I wouldn’t be capable of physically is an amazing feeling! !
I absolutely loved the Princess half weekend experience and look forward to running it again in 2020!!
