Happy Year of the Horse!!! ๐๐ด I made these cards to pair with my family’s holiday card this year. Painted with watercolor, then printed, threaded with string and hand painted with glitter. โจ I chose to make it in the shape of an Ema (็ตต้ฆฌ), a wooden plaque that you write wishes or prayers on at temples or shrines in Japan. โฉ๏ธ
Another sticker drawing for my journal. This one is Japanese caramel custard pudding called “Purin/ใใชใณ”. (Similar to flan!) My daughters picked this out at the grocery store to try since we love the Sanrio character, “Pompompurin”!
We have been reading “Frog and Toad” a lot at bedtime lately. ๐ธ๐ Did you read it growing up? The stories are so funny and cute. ๐ฅฐ I made this to print as stickers for my journal, and now I’d like to try painting them next! #ใใธใฟใซใขใผใ #ใคใฉในใใฌใผใฟใผ #illustration #illustrator #artistsoninstagram #frogandtoad #ใตใใใฏใใฃใใ
This week’s illustration is inspired by an upcoming trip… โ๏ธ๐ธโฉ๏ธ This spring we are going to Japan! I’m beyond excited!! I’m hoping to recreate this swan boat drawing in real life - but with my family instead of Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma… ๐ My daughters are most excited about visiting themed cafes, nature adventures, Studio Ghibli anything and Tokyo Disney. If you have any places you recommend we visit, please let me know! ๐ I look forward to sharing our adventures this spring!!
How is your 2024 going so far? I’m so excited for this year and the things I have planned! One of my goals is to share a piece of artwork every week on instagram (and to finish up a ton of stuff I started ages ago!) We also have a dream trip coming up that I can’t wait to share about! Happy belated New Year to everyone!!
Little watercolor doodle of Jemima Puddle-Duck by Beatrix Potter ๐ Her work is on display at the High Museum in Atlanta right now and it’s absolutely lovely in person!!
Geranium watercolor sketch. I don’t feel like the colors are 100% accurate in this scan (the leaves are more cool toned) but it’s close enough…! Made with @holbein_art watercolors and colored pencils.
Hydrangea water color sketch! One of my favorite flowers. Made with @kuretakejapan gansai tambi watercolors and Prismacolor pencils.
Another watercolor scan - this time of Angelina Ballerina from “Angelina’s Birthday” by @katharine_holabird ! My oldest daughter loves the Angelina Ballerina books and it’s so fun to read them with her since I enjoyed them when I was little too. I love all the beautiful illustrations by Helen Craig in each story! Illustration is 4x4” and made with @holbein_art watercolors and colored pencils.
The final watercolor snail with geraniums for my daughter, Autumn! 4x6” with @holbein_art paint and colored pencils. The snail is based on a @jellycat toy she likes.
I recently got a new scanner which means I can finally share some of the watercolor pieces I’ve done this year! Here is a sketch of a snail with hydrangeas… I made this for my daughter, Autumn! She requested I repaint it with geraniums though… She’s a tough client! Haha
“The wind is rising! We must try to live!” ใผPaul Valéry โ๏ธ๐ All summer long, Autumn has asked to watch @ghibliusa movies every day. (And draw them too!) This was the first year I showed her “The Wind Rises”! โ๏ธ Is anyone excited about the new Studio Ghibli movie, “How do you live?”, coming out in Japan tomorrow?? I am looking forward to seeing it when it comes to the US!
Welcome!
